ABOUT
THE ARTIST - Kathy McCartney
Kathy
McCartney is an accomplished artist who captures “tropical
expressions” with oil on canvas.
Various life responsibilities after high school vied for
Kathy’s attention and temporarily diverted her from
pursuing her artistic dream. Yet during those years of working
and raising a family she continued to have strong desires
of pursuing these artistic visions.
Dreams wait for no one, especially an unwilling participant.
So she made a decision to create the time to pursue a dream
or two. Any spare moment was spent on reading books, watching
art instruction programs and experimenting with different
mediums. She finally decided to work with oil on canvas.
“ I like the texture of oil, the translucent quality
and flexibility of this method. I like to layer the translucent,
vibrant blues and greens and semi translucent colors on
top of one another to construct my water scenes. This produces
the movement and intense long lasting colors that help make
my paintings come alive.” She found her teacher Tom
Anderson in the year 2000 and began taking classes under
his instruction part-time while working at her full-time
corporate job and raising her son. “Anything is possible
when you stay focused, remain persistent, patient, and daring
enough during challenging times. One must continue to push
and believe in themselves, because sometimes your voice
is the only encouragement you will hear.”
Today, Kathy lives in San Ramon, CA and part-time in Kihei
Maui Hawaii. She has two businesses: McCartney Fine Art Studios - 178 East Prospect Avenue, Danville,
CA. Here her art is on display along with Barbara Davies and Joanne Robinson. She also teaches drawing and
painting to children and adults at the Link2 Fine Art Gallery in Danville, CA . She also owns and operates
MauiVision Rentals since 2002. If you need help finding
peace and relaxation, Maui is the place. Visit her other
